1. Overview

maXtrail is a GPS-based tracking application for recording outdoor activities.

The app processes precise location data exclusively for the purpose of recording and displaying user activity tracks.

maXtrail does not require user registration and does not transmit personal data to external servers.

All data processing takes place locally on the user’s device.

2. Data We Process

2.1 Location Data (Precise Location)

maXtrail processes precise GPS location data in order to:

record activity tracks
calculate distance, speed, duration, and elevation
display tracks on a map

Location data may be processed:

while the app is actively in use
while the app is running in the background
while the device screen is off

This is necessary to ensure uninterrupted track recording.

Background location is used only while an activity recording is actively running (user-started).
When no recording is active, maXtrail does not access location in the background.

All location data is stored locally on the user’s device only.

2.2 Activity Data

The app stores activity-related information such as:

track timestamps
duration
speed
elevation
calculated statistics
user-defined labels (e.g., track names, if used)

This data is stored exclusively on the user’s device.

3. Data Storage

All recorded data is stored locally on the user’s device using Android system storage.

maXtrail:

does not operate a backend server
does not upload data to cloud services
does not automatically transmit data
does not sell user data

If the user exports data (e.g., as GPX files), the export is initiated manually by the user and stored in a location selected by the user.

4. Data Sharing

maXtrail does not automatically transmit or share personal or location data with third parties.

All recorded data remains stored locally on the user’s device.

If the user chooses to export track files (in GPX format), the exported files may contain:

recorded location data
activity statistics
metadata required for restoring app-specific information

Such exports are initiated manually by the user.

Any further sharing of exported files is solely under the control and responsibility of the user.

maXtrail does not operate servers and does not access, store, or control exported files once they leave the device.

No analytics tools, advertising SDKs, or external tracking services are integrated.

5. Permissions

maXtrail may request the following permissions:

Precise Location – required for track recording
Background Location – required for continuous recording when the app is not actively in use
Foreground Service / Notifications – required to display active recording status during tracking
Storage Access (if applicable) – required for exporting track files

Permissions are used strictly for the functionality described above.

6. User Control and Data Deletion

Users have full control over their data.

Users can:

delete individual tracks
delete all stored data within the app
uninstall the app to remove all locally stored data

Since no external servers are used, deleting data within the app permanently removes it from the device.

7. Children’s Privacy

maXtrail is not directed to children under the age of 13.

The app does not knowingly collect personal data from children.

8. Legal Basis (EU Users)

For users within the European Union, data processing is based on:

Article 6(1)(b) GDPR – processing necessary for providing the app’s functionality
Article 6(1)(a) GDPR – user consent for location permissions granted through the Android permission system

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated if app functionality changes.

Updates will be published on this page with a revised effective date.
